The Artist: Robert Goodnough was born in Cortland, New York in 1917.
He earned his B.A. from Syracuse University, Ozenfant School of Fine Art,
Hans Hofmann School of Art; and an M.A. from New York University. He taught
art at New York University; Fieldson School, Cornell University and Skowhegan
Art School. Robert Goodnough's work is owned in private and public collections
and he ha been exhibited extensively in the United States and in Europe,
including: Andre Emmerich Gallery, New York; Art Museum, Rhode Island
School of Design, Providence; Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago; Art Gallery,
University of Minnesota. Minneapolis; Art Gallery, University of Notre
Dame, So. Bend; New Vision Centre Gallery, London, England; American Embassy,
London, England; Cayuga Museum of History and Art, Auburn, New York; and
Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Some special international hallmark
shows and traveling exhibitions include: "American Paintings", Minneapolis
Institute of Arts, Minneapolis; "The New York School: Second Generation",
The Jewish Museum, New York; "Nature in Abstraction", Whitney Museum of
American Art, New York; 'Walter Bareiss Collection", The Museum of Modern
Art, New York; "Business Buys American Art", Whitney Museum of American
Art, New York; "Sixty American Painters: Abstract Expressionist Painting",
Walker Art Center Minneapolis; "The Aldrich Collection", and The American
Federation of Arts, traveling exhibition to Major Museums throughout the
country in venues including: Oklahoma, Dallas, Los Angeles California
and San Francisco, Seattle Washington, Chicago, Albany N.Y., Chicago,
Baltimore Maryland, Allentown Pennsylvania, Tucson Arizona; and St. Louis
Missouri. Other impressive special exhibitions include: Yale University
; "Villeme Exposition International de Tusnisie", Tunisia; "Pittsburgh
International Exhibition of Contemporary Painting"; Exhibition of Contemporary
Painting", Carnegie Institute , Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Corcoran Gallery
of Art, Washington D. C.; "Art of Assemblage", Dallas Museum of fine Arts;
and "Exhibition of American Painting", Whitney Museum of American Art,
New York. The Art: Goodnough, a respected sculptor and painter, has not restricted his work to sculptor materials and canvas. In turning to print making Goodnough brings the same aesthetic abilities characteristic to his painting style and sculpture work. In experimenting and extending his range of expression Goodnough has kept integrity and freshness in his art.
