The Artist: Stephen McMillan was born in the United States in 1949.
He earned his B.F.A. and B.A. from the University of California, Santa
Cruz. He completed graduate study in art at University of California at
Berkley, and Hornsey College of Art in London, England. He has enjoyed
solo exhibitions throughout the country including Santa Fe, N.M.; San
Francisco California; and Chicago, Illinois. McMillan has been the recipient of printmaking prizes and
exhibited throughout the country including: Printmaking Show, Brooklyn
Museum, New York; Printmaker's Gallery San Francisco, California; United
States Information Agency Two Year Traveling Exhibition in Eight Japanese
Cities, Foot Print Competition Show - Purchase Award Seattle Washington;
Hewlett Packard, Palo Alto, California; Plains Art Museum, Moorehead,
Minnesota; Scottsdale Arts Festival, Scottsdale, Arizona; Purchase Prize
at the Los Angeles Printmaking Society National Exhibition, California
State University, Northridge California; DeCordova Museum, The Boston
Printmakers Exhibition, Lincoln, Massachusetts; Southern Utah State College;
Spokane National Print Competition, Spokane, Washington; Printmaker's
Gallery, San Francisco, California; and Recent Acquisitions Show, Brooklyn
Museum, New York. His work is in permanent private and corporate collections,
and museums throughout the Unites States where it is exhibited including:
Oakland Museum, Oakland California; DeYoung Museum, Achenbach Print Collection
at San Francisco, California; Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, Monterey,
California; Illinois Bell, Chicago, Illinois; Harrahs Hotel, Reno, Nevada;

Japan; and Print Collection of the Brooklyn Museum, New York. The Art: McMillan is an accomplished printmaker with strong drawing skills. His art has mystical poetic quality. Especially lovely are his landscape acquatings which simultaneously have a spirit, delicacy and power.
