Shirlee: ca. 1920 (USA)

The Artist:

Shirley was born in USA ca. 1920. She was educated at Georgetown University, where she studied art. Shirlee worked in Philadelphia for more than 30 years, as an interior designer. Her drawings, paintings, and designs have been used for murals and unique interiors throughout the Philadelphia, Delaware, and New Jersey tri-state area. Architects and other designers prize her work and talent. Shirlee has perfected unique techniques which lend themselves to large expansive projects.

The Art:

The ink drawings and gouache displayed below were initially created in 1976 as maquettes for proposed work for Atlantic City New Jersey casino's, when the casino world first came to that famous New Jersey town. The gouache and the ink pier drawing, below, represent the original Steel Pier and the Million Dollar Pier, respectively, as they were in the late 19th century. The pen and ink drawing, The Hunt, recalls art of hunting and racing themes which were presented to casino designers for consideration in prospective decorations for casino dinning rooms.
