The Artist: Shirley Tattersfieldwas born in USA in 1926. She was educated
at Georgetown University in Newtown Pennsylvania, where she studied art.
She graduated, in 1949, from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, now
called the Univeristy of the Arts. Ms. Tattersfield, a Modernist, worked
in Philadelphia for more than 30 years, as an interior designer. Her drawings,
paintings, and designs have been used for murals and unique interiors
throughout the Philadelphia, Delaware, and New Jersey tri-state area.
Architects and other designers prize her work and talent. Ms. Tattersfield
exhibited lithography at the Philadelphia Print Club, and as a Muralist
her work is displayed in assorted private residents. Shirley Tattersfield
perfected unique techniques which lended themselves to large expansive
projects. The Art: The ink drawings and gouache displayed below were initially created in 1976 as maquettes for proposed work for Atlantic City New Jersey casino's, when the casino world first came to that famous New Jersey town. The gouache and the ink pier drawing, below, represent the original Steel Pier and the Million Dollar Pier, respectively, as they were in the late 19th century. The pen and ink drawing, The Hunt, recalls art of hunting and racing themes which were presented to casino designers for consideration in prospective decorations for casino dinning rooms.
